BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Gurin) is a vaccine against tuberculosis that is prepared from a strain of the attenuated (weakened) live bovine tuberculosis bacillus, Mycobacterium bovis, that has lost its virulence in humans by being specially cultured in an artificial medium for years. The bacilli have retained enough strong antigenicity to become a somewhat effective vaccine for the prevention of human tuberculosis. Recommended for use in the risk of infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

DPT - Diphtheria is a disease of the respiratory system. Pertussis is whooping cough. Tetanus is a serious infectious disease of the nervous system that causes severe contraction of the muscles. DTaP is an acronym for the combined diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis vaccine. The "a" denotes the vaccine's acellular pertussis components, distinguishing it from whole-cell, inactivated DTP (aka DTwP) vaccine. The acellular vaccine uses antigenic fragments of the pertussis pathogen to induce immunity.

Hep A is an infectious disease of the liver caused by Hepatitis A virus in contaminated food or drinking water. The time between infection and the appearance of the symptoms, (the incubation period), is between two and six weeks and the average incubation period is 28 days. Hepatitis A does not have a chronic stage and does not cause permanent liver damage. Following infection, the immune system makes antibodies against the hepatitis A virus that confer immunity against future infection. The disease can be prevented by vaccination.

Hep B An infectious disease of the liver caused by Hepatitis B virus. Hepatitis B virus infection may either be acute (self-limiting) or chronic (long-standing). Persons with self-limiting infection clear the infection spontaneously within weeks to months. Children are less likely than adults to clear the infection. Acute infection with hepatitis B virus is associated with acute viral hepatitis - an illness that begins with general ill-health, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, body aches, mild fever, dark urine, and then progresses to development of jaundice. The infection may be entirely asymptomatic and may go unrecognized.

Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b) Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine (Hib vaccine or PRP vaccine is a conjugate vaccine developed for the prevention of invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b bacteria

Influenzinum - flue symptoms

Menningococcinum - Inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, known collectively as the meninges. Otherwise known as Neisseria Meningitidis, Meningococcus is a bacterium that in humans lives in the nostrils and at the back of the throat.

It is spread by coughing and sneezing. Meningitis occurs when meningococcus bacteria leave the nose or throat and become established in the brain or spinal cord. The biggest factor determining whether or not the meningococcus will invade another part of your body is the state of your immune system.

Homeopathic Treatment of Meningitis

Hospital treatment is essential. Diagnosis is by lumbar puncture in hospital. Conventional treatment uses antibiotics. Prompt action is vital.

Progress of the disease can be insidious, with misleadingly mild symptoms. Deterioration can be very rapid - possibly within hours - especially with meningococci. Give these remedies in 30c or 200c potency on the way to hospital. Frequent repetition is necessary if symptoms are severe.

Aconite (Monk's Hood)

This is a major remedy in inflammation and fevers. Use when the symptoms are acute, sudden, or violent. There may be fear, anxiety, anguish of mind and body. This is the remedy to think of at the first symptoms of fever or 'flu-like illness.

Belladonna (Deadly Nightshade) - Use this after Aconite, when the symptoms are sudden and violent, such as: Burning heat, high fever; hot head, cold limbs; skin flushed, red; dilated pupils. Throbbing carotids; throbbing, hammering headaches.Delirium, hallucinations, frightful visions on closing eyes; semi-stupor. Starts, jerks, spasms, shocks, twitchings; convulsions. Sensitive to light, noise or movement.

Apis (Bee Sting)- Great anxiety and restlessness. Also great inclination to sleep. Puffy eyelids and face. Extreme sensitivity to touch. Sudden shrill piercing screams (meningeal irritation).Rolling of head from side to side; boring of head backwards into pillow.Burning heat; feels much worse for heat of room, heat of bed, hot drinks.

MMR Measles, mumps, rubella viruses - The measles virus enters the body through the nose and mouth. It incubates, often silently, for up to 14 days in the lymph system, liver, spleen, bone marrow and blood. Thus the natural disease involves a massive effort from the entire immune system. Vaccination weakens this natural immune response, and children become more susceptible to breathing difficulties, asthma, eczema, allergies and glue ear.

MRSA Methicillin-resistant Staph. aureus is a resistant variation of the common bacterium Staphylococcus aureus.

PCV - Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine To protect infants and young children against disease caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae. This is a pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine, introduced in 1983. This contains 23 strains of pneumococcus, and is used for adults and children over 2 years

Polio - Poliomyletis virus An acute viral infectious disease spread from person to person. Sympoms: Headache and general malaise; gastro-intestinal disturbance (i.e. diarrhoea, vomiting); sore throat; stiffness of neck and back; aching muscles. From day 4 or 5, a 36-hour development period of muscle paralysis may commence. Coughing, swallowing or speech may be affected. As with any disease, susceptibility is the key.

Rotavirus Severe diarrhea among infants and young children.

Staphylococcus aureus - Staph infection. The clostridium tetani bacilli are spore-forming organisms commonly present in the intestinal tracts of farm animals, horses and any manure-treated soil. The spores are highly weather-resistant, and can survive in soil for decades.

Varicella zoster virus chicken pox Chicken Pox is a generally mild viral infection arising from Varicella Zoster, a member of the Herpes family.
